Nigerian Players Scorecard: Goal rush!! Moses, Etebo, Semi Ajayi, scores, Mikel, Iwobi shine in Saturday outing.

Nigerian international Alex Iwobi played all 90 minutes in Arsenal’s one-all draw against arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a fiercely contested North London derby on Saturday at the Wembley Stadium.

 

Iwobi was an attacking threat for the gunners all through the game and tested Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris twice but was unable to convert the rebound from Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang’s saved penalty.

 

Super Eagles skipper John Mikel Obi was once again instrumental for Middlesbrough in the English Championship as the team secured a point away from home against 19th placed Wigan Athletics on Saturday. The game which ended goalless saw the Nigerian international orchestrate the midfield for the Boro as they continue their fight for a return to the EPL.

 

Super Eagles defensive midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo was on target for his club Stoke City in a 2 – 0 home win over Nottingham Forests in the English Championship on Saturday. Etebo who was substituted for Charlie Adams in the 66th minute scored a screamer for the Potters in the 15thminute of the game before DR Congo striker Benik Afobe completed the rout for the home side in the 74th minute.

 

Nigerian International Semi Ajayi scored a brace as Rotherham United defeated Blackburn Rovers 3 – 2 in a nervy encounter in the English Championship on Saturday. The Nigerian defender scored two headers in the 2nd and 83rd minutes of the game.

 

Ajayi has scored three goals in his last two appearances and four in seven also helping the team stay unbeaten in six games as they continue to battle the drop.

 

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze was a second-half substitute in Villareal’s 2 – 1 home loss to Deportivo Alaves in the Spanish La Liga on Saturday. The talented Nigerian winger who lost his starting role to Cameroonian Karl Tako Ekambi came on for Ramiro Funes Mori in the 75thminute but failed to impact the game with a goal.

 

In Germany Nigerian international Anthony Ujah played all 90 minutes for Mainz 05 but fired blanks as the team lost away to Hertha Berlin 2 – 1 in the German Bundesliga on Saturday.

 

Nigerian defender Jamilu Collins was on defensive duty for SC Paderborn in the German Bundesliga II but was unable to save his side from losing 1 – 0 at home to FC St Pauli. Alexander Meier scored the only goal of the match in the 81st minute while Paderborn failed to capitalize on a late red card given to Pauli’s midfielder Ersin Zehir in the 87th minute.

 

Nigerian International Victor Osimhen was in action for Sporting Charleroi in the Belgian Pro League as they drew 1 – 1 at home to table toppers Genk. The lanky Nigerian forward failed to get his name on the score sheets.

 

In Turkey, Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi was on target for Bursaspor in a 3 – 2 comeback win in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday. This was Shehu’s first goal for the Turkish side since joining the club in January of 2018.

 

Former Super Eagles winger Victor Moses is in cloud nine as his late goal secured all three points for Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Ligue on Saturday. With the game tied at 2 – 2 Moses stepped up to coolly slot in an 84th-minute penalty past Rizespor’s goalkeeper Gokhan Akkan.

 

Super Eagles defender Brian Idowu was an unused substitute in Lokomotiv Moscow’s 2 – 2 home draw against Krylya Sovetov Samara in the Russian top league on Saturday. Idowu is yet to feature for the Russian club in 2019.

 

Super Eagle defender Stephen Eze provided an assist in Bulgaria as Locomotiv Plovdiv demolished Beroe 4 – 1 in the Bulgarian first professional league. The former Kano Pillars defender assisted Dimitar Vezalov for the team’s equalizer in the 32nd minute of the game.
