Manchester City youngster, Lukas Nmecha has received words of trust from The Citizens’ gaffer, Pep Guardiola, who confirmed that the Nigerian-born lad has been promoted to the Etihad club’s main team.
Guardiola said Nmecha’s promotion was due to the lack of enough attacking options in the squad, but used the moment to also rain accolades on the fast-rising kid.
Nmecha is the third Nigerian talent promoted to City’s first team in recent seasons, following in the footsteps of Kelechi Iheanacho and Tosin Adarabioyo.
However, he was not named amongst the substitutes in City’s Premier League meeting with Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
The Citizens are lacking numbers in attack following the injuries sustained by David Silva, Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus, and attempted to sign Leicester City’s Algerian star, Riyad Mahrez on deadline day but could not meet his valuation.
Guardiola, though, is now expecting much from Nmecha, who has been on the books of the Etihad outfit since the age of nine, and made his competitive debut against Leicester in the League Cup in December 2017.
The Citizens’ manager said: ”We have just three strikers plus Brahim (Diaz) and Lukas Nmecha. From now on Lukas will train with us for the season. It is not enough but Gabriel [Jesus] is coming back soon – I don’t know when exactly.”
