Rangers International of Enugu coach, Gbenga Ogunbote has promised that his side will show better form in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, than they did in the qualifying phase of the second-tier continental competition.
Ogunbote stated as much during a radio sports prgramme monitored by footballlive.ng, in which he admitted that his side were not at their best on Sunday, during the second leg of their play-off against Bantu FC of Lesotho at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
The ex-Sunshine Stars of Akure, Shooting Stars of Ibadan and Enyimba of Aba gaffer noted that his players did not settle down into the match quickly enough, which made Bantu scare them by scoring first, but added that The Flying Antelopes’ ability to recover from a goal down and go on to eventually win 2-1 shows the quality they possess.
He thanked their teeming fans for sticking by the team and Enugu State government for backing them fully, hence his charge that the Coal City side must do better in the group stage.
Ogunbote stated: “We are happy with the victory, we are happy that we are now in the group stage, and that means we have to work harder.
“We will work on all ears of our weakness, which we saw in this match and in our previous matches, and we will work hard to get better.
“We are grateful to the state government for helping us with what we desire and to the fans for always supporting us.
“We are now in the crucial stage of the competition and we cannot in any way afford to disappoint Nigerians. We will try to give our best.”
