Omeruo’s Leganes stops Atletico Madrid from going top

Date:

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo was instrumental in the heart of Leganes defense as the Los Pepineros held second placed Atletico Madrid to a 1 – 1 draw at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque in the La Liga.

The Nigerian international has become a revelation since moving to the Spanish side on loan from Chelsea at the start of the season.

Atletico Madrid were hoping to go up to the top of the table in the early kickoff but were unable to break the dogged Leganes defense more than once.

After a goalless first half, France international Antoine Griezemann scored the first goal of the match in the 69th minute while Leganes Guido Carrillo equalized for the home side in the 89th minute.

Leganes is currently 18th on the table in the La Liga. Omeruo currently enjoying life in Spain is contemplating making his loan deal with the Spanish side permanent.

Leganes will next play Girona in an away fixture.
