Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi has parried any worries about the Super Eagles having the youngest squad at this year’s World Cup, as he says Nigeria’s rookies are ready to shine and stun the global soccer showpiece.
Though Onazi appears to have been stripped of his role as Eagles’ vice-captain, the former SS Lazio of Italy star is not allowing the development weigh him down, as he insists the Nigerian squad is set to shock the world.
Onazi is one of only five players on the current Eagles squad who featured at the last World Cup, and believes his experience will help them go past the Round of 16 they achieved four years ago in Brazil.
Onazi further said Eagles opening’s Group D match against Croatia is the most important game for the team and labelled it their World Cup final.
Onazi declared: “This is the most important game we will play at the World Cup because we wish to take it a game at a time.
“Also, the first game in any tournament is very important as it will most likely determine how far you can go.
“We are the youngest team but these young boys are ready to make a big difference here. We want to go past the Round of 16 and afterwards we will see what happens.”
