The Super Eagles are bound to be without another high profile member of the squad for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles, as Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi is set to be axed for the game.
In what could be a continuation of the shutout the former SS Lazio of Italy star faced after his infraction at the 2018 World Cup, it was gathered on Thursday that the once fearsome midfielder, who was stripped of his role as vice-captain is set to be punished further.
It was further gathered that the Trabzonspor player is not in the plans of Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, who wants to try other options in midfield against Seychelles, hence his decision to leave Onazi out of the list of players which will be released on Friday.
Onazi looked shaky in friendlies before the World Cup in Russia and at the tournament proper did not get to play any minute for Nigeria in three group games.
Last weekend he was on for the entire duration of Trabzonspor’s 3-1 win over Sivasspor in the Turkish Super Lig, which was his second league game of the season, after an opening 2-0 loss against Istanbul Basaksehir.
