Onazi Undergoes Successful Surgery In Istanbul

Date:

Trabzonspor of Turkey have disclosed that their Nigerian midfielder, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi received successful surgery on an injury he copped last weekend, but footballlive.ng reports that the club are yet to give a definite date on when he is expected back in action.

Amidst speculation that Onazi might be out for the remaining part of the ongoing season, the Turkish Super Lig club confirmed that the former SS Lazio of Italy ace got a ruptured Achilles tendon against Caykur Rizespor.

Onazi was taken off after the half-hour of his side’s 4-1 victory, then went for surgery on Monday, with high hopes of a chance of still being able to feature this season.

Should he be ruled out for the entire season, Onazi could find his hopes of starring for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations dashed. which is the worst fear of Trabzonspor’s president, Ahmet Ağaoğlu.

Ağaoğlu described it as an unfortunate injury, especially as the 25-year-old battler only recently returned from a similar knock, which kept him out of action with the Super Eagl;es, and has since been in top form.

Statistics show further that Onazi has been awesome this season for Trabzon-based side in 15 matches so far this season, from whicbh he has two goals and two assists to show.

Ağaoğlu lamented: “Unfortunately Onazi suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon. His season may well be over.”
