Galatasaray of Turkey attacker, Henry Onyekuru has downplayed the import of his stunning performance and goal in Tuesday’s exhibition match against Liberia, as he says it is a formality for him to always want to do well.
Although he admitted he is eager to get more playing time with the Super Eagles, the former KAS Eupen and RSC Anderlecht of Belgium forward said it is not anything out of the ordinary for him to score in such a match.
While many observers believe he outdid himself and just went out to impress, Onyekuru hinted that the played the way he did because he was waeri9ng Nigeria’s colours and will always give his best for the country.
Onyekuru added that it was a dream come true for him to meet Liberia’s ex-soccer star turned president, George Weah, such that he also felt the need to make an impact in a match against the African football legend.
The fleet-footed winger-cum-attacker went on to acknowledge that his performance on Tuesday could open wider doors of opportunities for him in the Eagles, but added that he is ready to wait for his time in the Nigerian national team.
“There is really nothing much to say about the game. For me, I will always give my best in both qualifiers and friendlies, so I will just wait for my time,” Onyekuru said.
