Rivers United swiftly responded, with Udom Edem Ekarette netting an equalizer just three minutes later. A seesaw battle ensued as Alex Oyowah secured the lead for the visitors right before halftime.
The former Nigeria Premier Football League champions further solidified their position, extending the lead three minutes into the second half through Ghanaian midfielder Farouk Mohammed.
Despite a spirited comeback attempt by Academica do Lobito, Fernando Camuege managed to narrow the deficit in the 68th minute. Rivers United, currently in third position in Group C, holds a promising position with nine points from five games, setting the stage for an intriguing run in the competition.
