Nigeria’s beach soccer national team, Super Sand Eagles on Friday failed to break a long held jinx against Senegal, as Coach Adamu Ejo’s side again lost in the African final, footballlive.ng reports.
The Eagles will now take consolation only in having already qualified for the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Paraguay, following another Senegal in the final of the CAF Beach Soccer Nations Cup in Egypt.
Both Senegal and Nigeria will fly Africa’s flag at Paraguay 2019, but it is the Francophone West African country that holds bragging rights on the Eagles, haven also beaten them in the 2016 final played in Lagos.
Nigeria and Senegal also earlier opened hostilities in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on Sunday, with both locked at 4-4 after regulation and extra time before the four time champions and holders won 2-0 on penalties.
The Senegalese were more vicious and despite the second period ending at a respectable 2-1, they went all fangs out in the third and final period to win 6-1.
Abu Azeez, who scored four in the 7-6 defeat of hosts Egypt in the first semi final on Wednesday, took his tally to 104 by hitting the Eagles’ only goal of the match, as he finished the tournament with eight goals.
