PHIL NEVILLE has officially welcomed the start of the new football season after a Starbucks worker wrote “idiot” on his coffee.
The former Everton and Manchester United star, 41, was handed a coffee cup sprawled with the insult… and a smiley face.
Starbucks are renowned for spelling customers’ names wrong on their coffees but one worker took it a step further by insulting former Manchester United man Phil Neville on Saturday morning.
It’s pretty far-fetched to believe the barista heard “idiot” from “Phil”…
And Neville revealed the stunt on Instagram, captioning the image: “Football season as begun. Look at the smiley face below.”
Some social media users however, cottoned on to Starbucks’ game fairly quickly.
One claimed: “They call you an idiot and you give them free advertising…”
Meanwhile, Neville’s 16-year-old son, Harvey, has followed his father and uncle’s footsteps by signing for Man United.
The youngster put pen to paper on the deal earlier this summer and expressed his joy on Instagram, saying: “I am very proud and excited to have signed for the club I have supported my whole life @manchesterunited”.
Proud dad Phil wrote: “Proud of you @harvey.neville go follow your dreams!!!”
