Super Eagles star, Ademola Lookman’s footballing career

Ademola Lookman Olajade Alade Aylola Lookman, known simply as Ademola Lookman, has emerged as a heroic figure for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, securing a quarter-final qualification win against Cameroon with two goals and being the lone goal-scorer against Angola in yesterday evening’s match.

Lookman has been a prominent figure since the start of the Africa Cup of Nations, showcasing impressive performances in the knockout stage of the competition.

Born on the 20th of October, 1997, to Nigerian parents in Wandsworth, Greater London, Ademola Lookman is a professional footballer currently playing for Atalanta FC in Serie A. The winger has exhibited exceptional form, contributing 7 goals and 3 assists in 18 matches for Atalanta this season in Serie A.

In the AFCON, Lookman has been a standout performer for the Super Eagles, tallying three goals and one assist in the competition.

Lookman’s football journey traces back to 2014 when he caught the eye during a friendly match between Charlton Athletic and London FC under 16. His stellar performance garnered interest from Charlton Athletic, marking the beginning of his senior football career in 2015 as a forward for the Championship side.

A move to Everton in January 2017 saw Lookman primarily playing as a winger. He embarked on loan spells, including a stint with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga during the 2017–18 season. Following subsequent loan spells with Fulham and Leicester City, Lookman joined Serie A club Atalanta during the summer transfer window on the 4th of August, 2022. His debut for Atalanta was marked by a goal, solidifying his impact.

Having represented England from under-19 to under-21 levels before transitioning to the Super Eagles, Lookman made his debut for Nigeria on the 25th of March, 2022, in a scoreless draw with Ghana. Since then, he has become a key player for the Eagles, embodying the team’s aspirations with his skill and contributions on the field.
