Uzoho v Adeleye: Who’s Super Eagles Safest Hands?

Date:

Analyzing the squad list for the Nigeria v Sao Tome and Principe Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, one can’t help but ponder the decision Jose Peseiro will make regarding the goalkeeper.

Francis Uzoho was absent from Nigeria’s 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone due to suspension, allowing Adebayo Adeleye to debut in goal.

However, Adeleye’s performance in that game couldn’t be fully assessed, as he conceded twice but appeared assured.

Unlike Uzoho who has earned 29 caps, Adeleye’s last game was just his first and he might need a good run of games to be properly assessed.

Although it is expected that Uzoho would regain his position as the top-choice keeper, his less-than-convincing performances over the years points to a case of Adeleye starting instead given the game’s importance.

Looking ahead to the match against São Tomé and Príncipe, Peseiro faces the decision of whether to reinstate Uzoho in the starting XI or stick with Adeleye.
