Bayelsa United has been fined N3 million by the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) for multiple breaches of the league’s framework and rules during their match against Shooting Stars on Sunday.
The club was penalized N1 million for each of the following offenses:
- Failure to provide adequate security and effective crowd control.
- Failure to restrict access by unauthorized persons to all restricted areas.
- Encroachment onto the pitch, which led to the assault of player Odah.
In addition, Bayelsa United has been fined N250,000 and is required to identify and prosecute the individual responsible for the assault within 48 hours of receiving the notice of sanctions. Failure to do so may result in further sanctions against the club.
The assailant, once identified, is banned from all NPFL match venues for one year pending prosecution. Bayelsa United has 48 hours from the date of the notice to appeal the sanctions
