Odey celebrates first Europa League goal.

Nigerian international Stephen Odey scored the winning goal for FC Zurich as the beat German side Bayer Leverkusen 3 – 2 in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, extending his goal tally to seven in 11 games this season.

 

The former MFM FC of Lagos goal king scored in the 78th minute of the encounter to give his team the maximum three points and take the team to the top of Group A table on 9 points ahead of Leverkusen on 6 points, Ludogorets and AEK Larnaca are on 1point respectively.

 

Antonio Marchesano opened the scoring for the Swiss side in the 44thminutes before two quick goals from Leverkusen mercurial midfielder Karim Bellarami put the game in favor of the away team. Tony Domgjoni scored the equalizer for Zurich in the 59th minute before Odey made it three in the 78thminute.

 

The goal for Odey is his first in three matches in the Europa league for the Swiss side. Odey joined FC Zurich in 2017 from NPFL club MFM FC of Lagos.

 

FC Zurich will face FC St Gallen away from home in the Swiss Super League on Sunday by 4pm.
