After Nigeria moved up four spots in the latest FIFA ranking released today, Super Eagles and Hapoel Be’er Sheva midfielder John Ogu believes the national team can become the best ranked footballing nation in Africa in the nearest future.
Reacting to an online report of the Super Eagles moving four spots up the latest ranking, Ogu tweeted “chasing number1 spot” and when quizzed by a fan if he meant in the world or on the African continent, Ogu replied “Yes Africa”
The Super Eagles climbed four places to 44th in the latest FIFA world rankings but remain number three in Africa behind Tunisia and Senegal while Cameroon and Ghana completes the top 5.
In the global ranking 2018 World Cup semi finalist Belgium takes the number one spot will World Cup winner France is in second place. Brazil, Croatia and England complete the top 5 best football playing nations in the world.
Nigeria’s best world ranking position was in 1994 when the team was placed number 5 in the world going into the World Cup in 1994 while the country’s lowest ranking was in November 1999 when the team was ranked number 82nd in the world.
